Sadly, we have seen a lot of logistics-issues with Wyeast yeasts over the past year or two - or three. For many years we were their biggest fans, and we also loved supporting a local Oregon-based company. But, since about 2005 or 2006, we have seen many problems with their "smack packs" and can honestly no longer recommend them. We do still stock some of their most popular varieties, but they are the only items in our store that we do not guarantee. We have seen such huge failure rates with customers that have used them that we only sell them now as "caveat emptor" - Buyer Beware. There is a 30 to 40% chance that they will not start fermenting in a decent amount of time, the smack-pack will not puff up (or is already puffed up prior to smacking) or the pouch will leak when you smack it. It is out of our control, and we wish it were diffferent. Wyeast has responded to us with two points of feedback: silence, and 'Our yeasts are good for one year from the date of manufacture....'
White Labs, their competitor from California, has stepped up over the past few years with a great assortment of easy-to-use, healthy, viable yeasts that never seem to have problems.
So for now, see our White Labs page which has all of our popular White Labs yeast.
Or go directly to the Wyeast web site for more information.
