Main Street stocks plastic fermenters of the following sizes. Please note that all fermenters are high-quality food-grade, and will not influence the flavour, nor aroma of objects fermenting within them. These plastic fermenters are all large open-mouthed bucket-style fermenters. Lids are included at the listed price.

Glass carboys and demijohns come in various sizes and shapes. Please note that in most cases, the actual size of the fermenter is LARGER than what it is labeled. (That means that a 5-gallon carboy holds about 5.33 gallons, and a 6.5-gallon holds exactly 7 up in the neck.)

Mexico has stopped production of all glass carboys. This has been the source of our carboys for many, many years. At this point in time, there are no carboy manufacturers in all of North America. So, our glass carboys are now being shipped in from Italy. This has added some cost onto the carboy price. We have found a beer and wine-based company that produces a plastic carboy called a BetterBottle. There seems to be a lot of good feedback about BetterBottles from those that have used them. They are made from a special plastic that resists oxygen and is easy to clean.
