Woohoo! It is time for the
Main Street 2011 Hop Rhizome Extravaganza!
Last year we sold hundreds and hundreds of rhizomes and many people actually got a decent harvest on their first year's crop. Although that is not always the case, by the second - - and third - year, hops will be spilling out of your gardens.
We will have a limited amount of rhizomes of about seventeen varieties. They will all be of the female persuasion (this is good). They should arrive towards the middle to end of March, and you should not plant them (or buy them!) any later than mid-May. Hops are pretty hardy and are not really affected by the cold -- they can (and should be) planted in early Spring in order for them to establish themselves by Summer. Although you may not always see many buds the first year, by the third year you can harvest up to a pound of dried hop cones per plant.
Hops are easy to grow, but should have some kind of trellis or fence that they can go up. A fully mature hop plant can grow over thirty feet long in one Summer. Here is a link to an article about growing hops. We will be accepting pre-orders immediately, (until the new website is operational, email me to pre-order) and should begin receiving our rhizomes between mid-March and early April.
Individual rhizomes are $3.75 each, please see our list below.
